General guidance from primary sources. These references do not verify local conditions, approve a product, or replace qualified assessment.
What changes the answer
TopicBuilding insulation materialsBuilding insulation is identified by material, product and its position in the wall, roof or floor assembly.TopicAir-sealing interfacesAn air barrier limits air movement through the building enclosure; insulation serves a different thermal function.TopicMoisture and vapor-control interfacesMoisture review distinguishes bulk water, air-carried moisture and vapor diffusion through an assembly.TopicMechanical insulationMechanical insulation belongs to a named pipe, duct or equipment service and its operating environment.TopicInstallation defects and verificationInstallation verification concerns the continuity and condition of the specified insulation system.ConditionPlanning and specificationPlanning and specification is the use or operating condition applied to this insulationwork.cyou record. Confirm the actual site conditions and available evidence before applying the guidance.ConditionOperating observationsOperating observations is the use or operating condition applied to this insulationwork.cyou record. How to interpret the answer
- Compare the specified thermal performance with cavity geometry, continuity and installation instructions.
- Record the identified air-barrier path and the scope, conditions and results of any specified leakage test.
- Compare insulation, jacketing and vapor-control details with the service and product instructions.
- Keep dated observations and test conditions alongside the product and assembly records.
